Beginner Classes

Our beginner classes in historical fencing are held approximately every 3 months as an 8 week course.  We accept all students 16 and older.  Beginners only need to bring comfortable clothing, we have basic loaner gear available for you to begin your training safely.  During your beginner training you'll learn the seven basic strikes of longsword fencing, and how to move around in a sword fight using good body mechanics and control.  Once you finish the beginner course you may attend our regular classes.

Registering for the beginner course is $40 due at the first class.

Beginner classes are held on Tuesdays from 5:00pm - 630pm at:

Soryukan Dojo and Healing Arts
206 North Whiteoak Street, Kutztown, PA 19530

  • The next 8 week beginners course starts on November 7th.

Intermediate to advanced students learn more complex swordplay from the material that was written in Il Fior di Battaglia, by Fiore Dei Liberi in 1409, and how/when to apply his techniques to a full speed longsword fencing match during sparring.  We highly encourage students to go out and compete in tournaments and attend events in the region or abroad when they are ready, but it is not required.
